@About Standardization Committee

Chairman: Mr. Shinichi ITOKAWA, Toshiba Teli Corpotation
Our mission is to promote the standardization of specifications to be adopted by industry in addition to creating technical specifications and taking necessary steps to standardize.

(1)Establishment of Standardization Working Groups
The Standardization Committee will form standardization working subcommittees and organize from time to time working groups (hereinafter referred to as gWorking Groupsh) by specification to promote standardization of the categories noted below.

(2)Standardization Committee meetings and coordination of Working Groups
The Standardization Committee is organized of Subcommittee chairpersons of the Standardization Working Subcommittee. It will hold periodic meetings and coordinate with the Working Groups. Each Working Group is composed of specialists with expertise in the designated field. It will create the specifications, and campaign for standardization. Issues and agenda may be presented by Working Groups. For an example, Illumination Subcommittee, Lens Subcommittee, and Camera Spec Display Standardization Subcommittee may each have the same issues in their activities, which the Standardization Committee will coordinate.
Currently there are four subcommittees: Digital Interfacing Subcommittee, Camera Spec Display Standardization Subcommittee, Illumination Subcommittee, and Lens Subcommittee. As the Digital Interfacing Subcommittee has four Working Groups, there are in fact seven Working Groups working on specifications and standardization for various industrial cameras and peripheral products.

‘1. The Digital Interfacing Subcommittee
Subcommittee Chairperson: Mr. Fumio NAGUMO, Central Information Systems Co., Ltd.
This Subcommittee works on standardization of industrial cameras interfacing specifications and promotes their adoption. Currently, there are four independent Working Groups related to digital interfacing and camera control protocol specification.

ž1-1. GigE Working Group
Group Leader: Mr. Tsutomu KOJIMA, ADSTEC KK.
This Group is in the process of adopting the AIA (Automated Imaging Association) standards for the industrial camera interface called "GigE Vision", which is focused on giga-bit Ethernet. We want to ascertain that it is a real requirement in JIIA. Upon its introduction into the market, we will constantly monitor it and propose any new requirements to the GigE Vision Committee in the AIA to add in the "GigE Vision" standards.

ž1-2. Camera Link Working Group
Group Leader: Mr. Fumio NAGUMO, Central Information Systems Co., Ltd.
This Group is reviewing, in cooperation with the AIA, one of the candidate standards for industrial camera interfaces called "Camera Link" and also confirming whether the extended specification called "PoCL" is a real requirement in JIIA. We will propose new requirements based upon customer feedback to the AIA.

ž1-3. GenICam Working Group
Group Leader: Mr. Toshiya SHIABA, JAI Corporation
This Group is in the process of reviewing and adopting gGenICamh, one of the candidate standards on which the EMVA (European Machine Vision Association) is working for camera control protocol specifications. Should we introduce case studies of its applications into the market and get feedback, we would propose our new requirements to the EMVA.

ž1-4. Next Generation Interface Subworking Group
Group Leader: Mr. Tomoaki KUROSAWA, Graphin Inc.
This Group is working on the next generation interface developed originally by JIIA. We expect new specifications to be released in the near future, because we are aiming to have them meet the advanced technological requirements of peripheral products. We will work to disseminate information both inside and outside JIIA to establish a world standard.

‘2. Camera Spec Display Standardization Subcommittee
Subcommittee chairperson: Mr. Masanori YASUDA, Toshiba Teli Corpotation
We have seen industrial cameras and peripheral products moving from analog to digital. causing potential problems with comparative analysis and system designs brought on by specification indices, definitions, and measurement methods that vary by manufacturer. This Working Group creates specification indices, definitions, and measurement methods and also promotes standardization in the industry.

‘3. Illumination Subcommittee
Subcommittee chairperson: Mr. Shigeki MASUMURA, CCS KK.
Standards for illumination interfaces, control methods, and illuminants have been varied between manufacturers, which makes difficult for even qualified system integrators to choose appropriate illumination against an object when designing systems. This Working Group is striving to settle such problems by making proposals on industrial camera illumination and promoting standardization of specifications.

‘4. Lens Subcommittee
Subcommittee chairperson: Mr. Hiroshi YAMAGUCHI, Toshiba Teli Corpotation
This Group works on standardization for industrial camera lenses which currently do not exist in either the AIA or EMVA.

The Standardization Committee of JIIA will strive work with the AIA, the EMVA, and other associations to develop and adopt standards that are consistent around the world.
